May Bank Holiday Weekend

Tuesday, 07 May 2013 13:39 Colin

Today marks the end of the May Bank Holiday Weekend for 2013. It was probably the busiest the town of Drogheda has had for a while with plenty of entertainment and activities organised. The Tall Ships were the main attraction for many with the Boyne 10K and the Raft Race not far behind.

We were nominated for the provision of medical cover for the whole weekend at each of the three main events. Our members turned up in force and put in a lot of time and effort over the weekend and they really did a great job.

It was a fantastic weekend and brilliant to see the crowds around the town, the atmosphere was electric and the sun even made an appearance!

Drogheda Rotary Club Donates from Memorial Tree

Monday, 11 February 2013 15:16 Colin

The Rotary Club of Drogheda's annual memorial tree has been a regular sight in Drogheda over the past number of years, and this year it ran over eight days from Monday the 17th of December right through to Christmas Eve.
The Memorial Tree operated from three locations; the spectacular Christmas tree outside St. Peter's Church on West St, outside Marks and Spencer in the Laurence Centre and at Tesco Extra on the Donore Rd.

"The idea behind the memorial tree is that people can remember loved ones who have passed away by writing a message on a memorial card, and we attached the card to a yellow ribbon on the tree", said Tom Eustace, President of Drogheda Rotary Club. "The person then gave a donation of any amount they choose, and these donations go to three local charities who are doing great work in our town: The 3 Local Charities included:
Drogheda Special Olympics , St. John Ambulance Drogheda Division, and Drogheda Homeless Aid.

On Monday 11th Feb 2013, The 3 organisations were invited to Lunch in the Westcourt Hotel, were all 3 received a cheque from the President of Drogheda Rotary Mr Tom Eustace. The president thanked all the public who donated and helped at the collection, stating that €12000.00 had been raised, Each of the choosen Charities received a donation of €4000.00 each.

Colin Maher Officer in Charge of St John Ambulance in Drogheda, said the Division was delighted to be considered by the Rotary club to benefit from the collection. We would like to Thank Drogheda Rotary Club, The Clubs President Mr Tom Eustace & all their members, the General public who Donated, and of course our own Volunteers who assisted. Drogheda Division provides it services throughout the Town and Northeast Area as well as supporting other Divisions in other areas. The Donation received today will assist us to continue to provide the service we do.
