Winner of Louth Rehab People of the Year Award

Saturday, 31 March 2012 10:24 Colin

Well done to Colin Maher who has only been with St John Ambulance a few short years and has already made an ENORMOUS impact in the North East, with the 2nd largest division in the country!

Last month Colin received a phone call to say that... he’d been nominated in the Rehab Louth People of the Year competition as a Voluntary Hero and had become the Category winner but last night at the Rehab Louth People of the Year gala dinner in the Westcourt Hotel in Drogheda not only did he collect this award but he was also awarded the title of Rehab County Louth Person of the Year 2012. We are very proud of Colin, It is obvious that he is greatly respected throughout Drogheda and indeed County Louth for his work. St John Ambulance are very lucky to have Colin in our organisation.

On Saturday 17th March 2012. St John Ambulance and Order of Malta provided Medical Services to the St Patricks Day Parade. St John provided 26 personal at various locations throughout the town. Our bike division patroled the streets and 3 Ambulances were made available. Thankfully the day went well.

Thanks to all our Volunteers for giving up their time to assist the Public at such a large gathering, Thanks to our Cadets who took part for the 1st time in the parade and to Dunshaughlin Division who helped out.

We are delighted to have assisted at the parade, and we look forward to next years.

Louth People of the Year

Wednesday, 14 March 2012 13:26 Colin

Rehab will be hosting the Louth People of the Year Awards in The Westcourt Hotel Drogheda on Friday 30th March 2012.  As you may know, Rehab host the National Awards every year live on RTE 1 and are delighted to be bringing this unique, uplifting event to County Louth for its 21st year. This year the award ceremony will take place for the very first time in Drogheda.  We have deliberately chosen this date and venue to capitalise on maximum publicity following on from RTE's Local Heroes programme and are thrilled to be doing our bit to bring the spotlight on to the town. Our media partners are The Argus and Drogheda Independent who have donated a huge amount of space in the paper for the 8 week period leading up to this prestigious event and we are also delighted to have secured LMFM's Gerry Kelly as our host and compere for the evening - all in all, its shaping up to be a fantastically exciting night.

Sgt Colin Maher was nominated for the award of Voluntary Hero, Nominations were made over a few weeks and Colin was quite surprised to receive a call from Rehab to say he was the winner of the award. Colin has to attend the event on 30th March to receive the award. On the night they will annouce the overall winner between the 9 categories.
