What is Cadets? Cadets are the youth of St. John Ambulance Brigade. They are between the ages of 11 and 18. There are Cadet divisions all around Ireland.

Why Become a Cadet? Becoming a Cadet means you'll learn First Aid skills and get to put them into practice. You will also gain skills such as how to lead groups of people and develop your training skills so you can teach others.Whatever you're into, you will get the chance to have fun with lots of opportunities to meet new friends, help your local community and try new things.

What We Do :Cadets are trained in First Aid and attend duties with the adult members and other Cadet divisions. Ongoing training provides Cadets with knowledge of many different subjects. These include Care of the Sick, Radio Communications, Use of Ambulance Equipment and many more. Cadets work towards achieving “The President’s Badge”. This badge encourages a cadet to get involved in a wide range of activities. From Craft to Map Reading, Cadets learn it all.Cadets take part in competitions with other first aid organisations and within St. John Ambulance. These competitions are great fun for all involved. Of course Cadets is not all work! Each year Cadets go on trips, camps and outings. Social events are also organised. feel free to email us for more details.

Clogherhead Prawn Festival

Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:50 Colin

Over Twenty unpaid volunteers from St. John Ambulance ranging from First aiders to Advance Paramedics were deployed in and around Clogherhead Village each day for the 2nd Clogherhead Prawn Festival wekkend.  A crowd of in excess of 25,000 people visited the village throughout the weekend. Many activities tuck place in the Harbour and Beach including Jet Ski racing, swims, Power boat racing, the Guinness book of records rock the boat attempt and live Music etc etc.

We worked alongside other local groups, Clogherhead Coastguard, Drogheda River Rescue, Boyne Fisherman rescue and recovery, Civil Defence and Gardai. Dunshaughlin, Raheny and Cork personnel also helped out. Hq provided the Medical tent and Cork provided the much needed 4x4 Ambulance to cover the Beach.

St. John Ambulance operated three ambulances, a 4x4 Ambulance, a bike unit, and a number of cardiac first responder foot patrols. Whenever possible, casualties were treated on site in order to allow them to stay and enjoy the event. To augment our capability to provide first aid on-site, our Medical Tent was operational on the Harbour. It was crewed by an experienced team including a nurse specialized in Emergency Nursing Care.

Providing first aid at public events of every size is critical to making the vision of the St. John Ambulance Brigade a reality; that everyone should have immediate access to first aid, no matter where they are or what they are doing at the onset of illness or injury. To this end, our unpaid volunteers provide first aid at hundreds of events throughout Ireland every year, and we have trained thousands of members of the public to render first aid. We have been at the service of the people of Ireland for over 100 years.

If you are interested in volunteering, or you are an event organiser and would like to arrange first aid cover, please contact us.

Samba Festival

Wednesday, 29 June 2011 00:00 Colin

The Drogheda Samba Festival, which is in its 18th year, is a three day (June 24th-June 26th, 2011)celebration of Brazilian, Latin and African music and dance . It includes indoor and open air gigs, workshops and a carnival parade. It has become the annual reunion for Irish samba schools who join samba bands from other countries for a weekend of fun and exploring new ideas and techniques. It is family friendly and most gigs are free. Highlight of the festival is the carnival parade on the last day in which all the groups at the festival take part and they are joined by local community groups. Salsa has become a popular feature and a late night fringe festival has developed which features music from a wide range of countries with a strong percussion content.

Drogheda Division provided Ambulance/First Aid Cover for the Event. Our Bike Unit was also Present.
